Remington is a popular lawn mower brand known for their high-powered and top-performing products. The 18A-212B783 is no different. This electrically powered cordless push lawn mower is one of the most popular in its category, being both powerful and eco-friendly.
You can easily switch between a corded electric mower and a cordless mower in no time with its topnotch battery system. If your battery runs out before you finish your lawn, you can just plug it in and finish the job.
This product has a lot of features and benefits not found in its counterparts, so let’s take a closer look at it and find out whether this is the lawn mower you’ve been looking for.
Remington 18A-212B783: A Closer Look at the Features
You will like this Remington’s cordless capability, although of course you’d think that it can do better with more power. You can use the on-board charger, which means that the cord is plugged into the mower’s body and you need to drag the entire unit around. In this scenario, having a really long extension power socket will really help, as you won’t want to haul the lawn back and forth the house just to recharge it. There is an optional battery charger sold separately, though, so this is a great option to consider.
The Remington 18-A212B783 comes with a 24-volt rechargeable battery that packs enough power that allows continuous usage for up to 75 minutes in just one charge. You can use the cordless function if you don’t want the hassle of dealing with cords. All you’d need to do is charge and then start mowing.
Because it is electrically powered, it is almost maintenance free, and emits 0 carbon footprint, making it one of the most environmentally friendly lawn mowers in the market. You won’t need to use oil or gas, and tune ups are not necessary.
It has a wide 19-inch cutting deck, featuring a 3-in-1 disposal system that includes a rear bag, mulching and side discharge for the clippings. The system already includes the side discharge chute, mulch plug, and a grass bag.
Adjusting the cutting height is a breeze with its 6-position single lever controls, which allows the user to change the height of the blade according to his preferences.
The unit is very comfortable to use with its foam cushioned and ergonomic handle. The cushioned grip helps to absorb vibration so you won’t feel very strained after mowing your lawn.
To optimize maneuverability and ease of use, the unit is equipped with well-balanced front and rear wheels, at 7 inches and 8 inches respectively. You can use the lawn mower in different terrains and reach even those hard to access areas.
The Things We Like about the Remington 18A-212B783
We especially liked the ability to change between a corded mower and a cordless one. Although the battery can only run for 75 minutes, you’ll most likely cover your entire lawn in that time, what with the power of the engine and the cutting precision of the blade. It is best to “power charge” the battery for a full night after your initial assembly.
According to the manual, the initial charge time should be 10 – 24 hours. You will get close to 2 hours of continuous mowing power after the initial charge, in fact, when fully charged, you can do a series of mowing sessions for 2 days without needing to recharge. In this aspect, Remington totally exceeded our expectations.
The other virtues you’d expect from a cordless electric lawn mower are present in this product, such as being quieter than its counterparts and having no carbon emission.
The assembly is also made easier because of the handle bolts threaded onto knobs, instead of nuts. The height of the wheel is also adjustable and the lever is hand-friendly. You can adjust the deck height from 1.23 inches to 3.5 inches in 6 increments.
The 19-inch steel cutting blade provides you with 3-in-1 mowing options including rear bagging, side discharging and mulching.
Are there any Cons?
As with any product, the Remington 18A-212B783 is not without flaws, however, they are quite insignificant compared to the numerous features and benefits of this product. But let’s look at them too, for true objectivity.
Although quite expected of battery powered mowers, and we certainly were impressed with the longer hours it provided, this model could be better with a little bit more power in it. But that would be asking for too much, wouldn’t it? In this perspective, you would need to be ready to haul the mower back and forth your house and lawn for recharging, although this can easily be resolved by a plug extension or an extra battery.
We also found the plastic parts of the mower to be more prone to crack compared to those that have steel chassis, but this also makes the Remington very light and easier to push.
For some users, the wheel alignment seems delicate as it sometimes wobbles. The cord handler is also choosy; it only fits the recommended type of cord so if you use a different cord size, it will most likely fall off.
As with any other battery-powered mower, do not expect that your battery will last forever. After a few years, it will eventually die and rendered unusable. But you can look for a replacement, and if not, you can just settle with using the corded mode until you find one.
The Remington 18A-212B783 exceeded our expectations in terms of battery capacity and grass-cutting performance. It is definitely worth the buy, being both powerful and eco-friendly at the same time. It is quiet and unobtrusive, and can be easily stored in your garage or shed. Although we long for more stability and maneuverability from its wheels, it is easy to push in non-bumpy terrains. Being lightweight and low-maintenance, this model is highly recommended for homeowners (even the elderly) who have small to medium sized lawns.
