Is there a more quintessential chore for the summer than mowing the lawn? It’s the way that pre-teens and teenagers can make some money, college students do it as part of the summer job and it’s always featured large in many sit-coms with husbands! Mowing the lawn is something which has just become a core experience for anyone with a lawn and it can even be made into a point of pride: look how nice and neat my grass is!

Of course, mowing the lawn can also be a real pain. Lawnmowers can be very costly (or very cheap in construction meaning they don’t work correctly), they can create a big mess, they can be too heavy to use very efficiently and they can be absolutely ruinous on the atmosphere. Many lawnmowers have problems with a variety of grasses and bumpy lawns (after all,  not everyone has a smooth, clear yard!) A cheap lawnmower makes more of a mess than it solves and an expensive one is out of reach for many homeowners and renters. A noisy one will annoy the neighbors and quiet ones are fairly rare. So what’s the proud owner/renter of a home and yard to do? Find a lawnmower that isn’t overprice, isn’t too noisy, won’t make a mess and will work when it’s supposed to work without a big fuss!

Does this sound impossible? It doesn’t have to be and while we cannot offer the perfect lawnmower, we do have one that is very close:

The Lawn-Boy 17732 CARB Compliant Kohler Lawn Mower

The Lawn-Boy 17732 CARB Compliant Kohler lawn mower is a walk behind, gas powered lawn mower (phew!) It offers a number of features that make it easy for homeowners to use and it’s affordable enough that most households should be able to purchase it and sturdy enough to make it worth the price tag. This particular lawn mower is really good for a wide variety of lawns owing to its design and drive system and it offers fairly clean use as it simply uses gas. It also offers a great Tru-Start Commitment and good options for use. Or so the advertisements claim! So what can you expect from the Lawn-Boy 17732 if you decide this is the lawn mower for you?

Features of the Lawn-Boy 17732 Mower

The Lawn-Boy 17732 mower is a lot more than simply a walk behind mower! It is a gas powered mower meaning that you get a good motor to chop down even sturdy lawns. The motor is a 6.5 gross torque overhead valve engine which is powerful enough to handle the strongest of grasses. But if you have a strangely growing lawn, this system features a 2 point Height of Cut system. What this does is let you adjust cutting heights from one side of the mower so you can adjust the length of the grass growing on your lawn to suit your preferences.

The design of the Lawn-Boy 17732 is well thought out as well. It’s heavy, but not too heavy at less than seventy pounds. It has large wheels which makes the system more maneuverable. And it’s very easy to put together: you simply unpack it, attach the handle, add the oil (comes with the device), add the gas (does not come with the device) and you can go! It also comes with a bag to store your grass.

The Lawn-Boy 17732 also has rear wheel drive. This is handy if your lawn is hilly or goes downhill because it gives you great traction and control. No run-away or stuck lawn mowers here! Furthermore, this device has a 3 in 1 discharge: you can mulch your grass, bag it or simply release it out the side to break down itself over time. With a 21 inch steel blade, you can cut right through the grass and with the 3-in-1 system, you can really decide what you want to do with it after. The blade is able to handle thick, wet and weedy lawns with ease.

Finally, the Lawn-Boy guarantees its start: if the mower doesn’t start with one or two pulls of the string, Lawn-Boy will fix it, absolutely for free for three years after the purchase date. That’s a pretty good guarantee that the machine will work consistently for a long period of time!

This lawn mower is also CARB Compliant for the state of California. This means that it complies with air standard qualities and has minimal pollution, something which will let everyone breathe a sigh of relief! Having a CARB compliant lawnmower is not only good for the environment, but it can also be something of a point of pride and a good way to show your commitment to clean air.

Problems with the Lawn-Boy 17732

It might be a bit heavy for some people, particularly seniors, at around 66 pounds in weight. For most people though, this is still pretty easy to handle. There are no real bells or whistles attached to this lawn-mower; it’s not self-propelled for example and it doesn’t have other bits and pieces to it, so if you’re looking for something very gadgety for your lawn, this won’t be it.

Otherwise, this device has very few problems with it and at less than $300.00 with a three year commitment to start properly, this device is great value for the money. It’s ideal for small to medium size lawns with any type of grass you can imagine. It gives you great options for grass cutting sizes and you can do things like mulch it, bag it or simply let it go back onto your lawn to break down naturally. And at the cost, combined with the Tru-Start Commitment, it’s ideal for people who are looking for something that will last a while and won’t break the bank. It’s particularly perfect for people who just need something to cut the grass and don’t need it to do much more than that! If any of this sound like you, then the Lawn-Boy 17732 mower should be just right for you. Enjoy!

Fall clean-up before the winter hits is never a very fun chore and you’re always left with a big pile of miscellaneous leaves, twigs, small branches and dead grass to deal with! While many people simply bag it and toss it, there is a better solution: shred it and mulch it!

Mulching the gardens and lawns before winter hits is a good way to ensure a healthy lawn and garden once spring comes back to town. The mulch gives the soil new nutrients and vitamins while keeping your plants like berry plants warm and safe all winter. Mulch also helps bring oxygen to the soil which is also an important part of the system. If you want healthy grass and grounds, then you want to add some good organic mulch and get rid of the old clutter while you’re at it. How can you do it? With the Eco-Shredder ES1600.

What is the Eco-Shredder ES1600?

The Eco-Shredder ES1600 is just that: an economical shredder that allows you to do easy clean-up of the yard when you’re done with light chores like raking and trimming the bushes. This device is best used for things like small twigs and small branches, leaves and cut grass rather than anything too tough or large. Featuring usability straight out of the box (basically) and of course the ability to turn yard waste into great mulch combined with an affordable price tag, the Eco-Shredder ES1600 may be just what you’re looking for in terms of great yard clean up. Learn more here!

Features of the Eco-Shredder ES1600

The Eco-Shredder ES1600 has a number of sturdy features which help you do your yard work efficiently. Primarily of course, this device is a shredder. It offers a triple cycle shredding system which gives you very consistent mulch at a ratio of 10:1 (10 units of waste equals 1 unit of mulch). The top of the device is ?bucket’ shaped, allowing you to easily load any size and shape of waste. The discharge chute is also rounded, making it easy to get the mulch back out again. The feeder is a three way feed so you can quickly load up the shredder and go.

The machine is also portable and quiet. It is an electrical shredder meaning that you don’t have to worry about causing noise and smell for the neighbors. It has seven inch wheels to make it very easy to roll the device around and it only weighs in at about sixty-three pounds, so you can even wheel it around to other places if you want to give someone a helping hand! It has replaceable blades so that you can change them up whenever you need to and plenty of safety features to keep you from getting into trouble. These include an overload protection switch and a flap over the chute to prevent things from flying around.

The blade itself is very good at shredding things like twigs and grass. It has a V-type blade which turns at up to 2800 RPM and you get replacement blades when you first buy the device. When combined with the 14 AMP, 2.5 HP motor, you get a shredder which can handle any sort of basic yard waste.

Benefits of the Eco-Shredder ES1600

The Eco-Shredder ES1600 has a number of benefits. It has easy assembly (about 15 minutes) and it is safe to use. It comes with a set of replacement blades and the tools you’ll need to actually install those blades. It’s very quiet as it’s electrically powered rather than gas powered and that means you can respect your neighbors and your ears! It’s also portable and it’s small enough to store just about anywhere, though its weight is surprising considering how portable it is! And finally, it’s easy to put together and can practically be used right out of the box.

The important thing though is that it can handle a variety of yard materials. It’s best used on things like twigs, small branches, grass and leaves and reduces these things to mulch or small chips. It can go through brush easily too.

The price tag isn’t bad for this device; less than $270.00 for the whole thing. This is a little more expensive than other shredders, but it does come with replacement bits and tools, so it’s worthwhile for those who regularly need something like this for their yard work.

Problems with the Eco-Shredder ES1600

It’s a far from perfect device however. Like many shredders, large branches will require some ?pre-processing’ in order to go through the system. It cannot handle wet materials at all well, like many shredders, and you must ensure that you unclog the device (or let it unclog itself) before using it again or else you could jam up the machine! Finally, the blades have to be sharpened regularly. You may want to do after every use, but you don’t need to; after every few uses is best. Another thing to watch for is that it can be ?tipped’ easily if it’s placed on very uneven ground. It’s relatively lightweight, so if you keep trying to put it bumpy, hilly ground, it may tip over on you.

Don’t expect the Eco-Shredder ES1600 to do much more than mulch and shred things; it does as advertised with no bells or whistles to add more to it. It has enough power to do what it needs to do, it handles standard yard waste, and it is easy to put together and use and then put away again.

The Eco-Shredder ES1600 does what it needs to do and do so admirably. It’s compact, easy to wheel around and can handle most standard yard waste with ease. It has good safety features, it’s affordable and it comes with replacement blades and tools for when you need to do some maintenance on it. While it’s not chock full of adjustable bits and bells and whistles, it does what it does and does it well which is precisely what one would expect from an affordable chipper/shredder. So get your work gloves on and get rid of the late winter/early spring waste with this Eco-Shredder ES1600. Enjoy!

Every spring and into the fall, everyone with a yard and a tree (or trees nearby!) have a problem: rotting leaves. The leaves are wonderful when they are green and on the trees, but come fall and then just after winter, you can be left with a leafy, moldy mess that smells odd, delays the growth of your lawn and just doesn’t look very pretty! This problem is particularly bad in the fall, but it can carry over into spring as well.

What if you had a way to turn those dead leaves into organic, beautiful mulch in a matter of moments? Mulch is very important for lawns and gardens: it helps put food back into the soil to help new things grow, properly aerated, it brings oxygen back in and it’s just better for grounds than simply leaving the leaves to rot away to nothing. If all this sounds good to you then, you need a good leaf mulching system to efficiently and quickly get rid of your dead leaf problem and turn it into a solution.

The Worx WG430

The Worx WG430 is a blade-less leaf mulching system, designed to be able to handle a ton of rotting leaves from your yard in a speedy and relatively quiet fashion. It can really only handle leaves, but it can turn a whole ton of leaves into useable mulch for your gardens and flowerbeds. The Worx WG430 is unique in that it doesn’t rely on a blade system and instead uses a very different and safer design that is ideal for leaf mulching and cuts down on the noise and air pollution. If you’re looking for something that can handle the debris from your trees, what should you know about the Worx WG430?

Benefits and Features

The Worx WG430 has a number of things about it which make it ideal for yards of any sort.

The big benefit is that it is bladeless. Instead of using dangerous long blades, it uses a fles-a-line bladeless mulching system; a grass trimmer line that is thirteen inches in diameter to shred and mulch leaves rather than whirling blades. The leaves are mulched at a ratio of 11:1-11 parts leaf to 1 part mulch. The bag you want to use to store your mulch is placed under the machine and the mulch falls into it. The Worx WG430 uses a 13 AMP, 120 motor which is powerful enough to turn huge piles of leaves into very compact fertilizer. Indeed, the machine can take up to 53 gallons of leaves and turn it into mulch in just a minute! Cleaning and mulching the leaves has never been easier or quicker.

The other big benefit is that this device is very easy to put together. It requires no tools and the instructions are easy to follow and barely necessary! The Worx WG430 is also very compact in design and can be stored or pulled apart at the end of your gardening season with ease. Its design allows you to use both paper and plastic bags if you like and since it weighs in at less than 20lbs, it is very easy to move all over the yard as you need.

The Worx WG430 has decent safety features. It has a huge on and of switch that makes operation easy and it has a dust-reducing clean-air motor. This helps to reduce the amount of dust the machine produces, though it may still produce quite a bit depending on the nature of the refuse you’re throwing in. It’s also very durable and stable; although it weighs less than twenty pounds, it’s built in such a way that it won’t simply tip over as soon as you try to do anything!

And finally, at less than $150.00, this device is highly affordable for what you’re getting. If you don’t need something that can shred wood and hardier things, it’s definitely worth buying this over something like a shredder or chipper. You also get a two year warranty which is always good for one’s peace of mind when it comes to a device such as this. The warranty is a manufacturer’s warranty, so it’s best used if there is a defect in your device; it won’t do you any good if you put something too big into the blades!

Problems with the Worx WG430

The Worx WG430 is good at what it does, but it is limited in many other ways. Many users complain that it still produces a great deal of dust and noise considering the fact that it doesn’t have huge blades and it’s supposedto have a dust-free motor! The system also requires frequent line changes meaning that you’ll be doing regular maintenance. Fortunately, the system comes with 24 replacement lines, but you may whip through those comparatively quickly, depending on how often you use the system.

Most importantly though, this is a leaf mulching system, not a system built to handle sticks, twigs and braches. The bladeless system cannot handle branches that are any thicker than a pencil with any degree of ease and if you start trying to add more than leaves and grass to the pile, you’ll end up wrecking your system a lot faster. Furthermore, the ratio of 11:1 is not as good as the usual ratio of 10:1, meaning that you’ll get less mulch than you would with other systems.

If you are looking for a way to get rid of your rotting leaves and dead grass in your yard and you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a chipper/shredder that you don’t need, the Worx WG430 isn’t a bad investment at all. It is strictly for rotten leaves and grass, so don’t expect it to do more than that, but in that realm, it’s quite good. It’s quick, it’s safe to use, it at least reduces dust and noise and it’s portable enough to be stored and used anywhere. All in all, it’s a nice little system which is a great way to clean up your yard pre and post-summer. Take care of your lawns and your gardens; turn dead leaves and grass into organic, healthy mulch and enjoy the fruits of your labor!

The batteries have LEDs on them to show when they are fully charged, and when they are, the battery will power the mower for more than an hour.

Now an hour may sound not that long, but that actually means mowing up to 1.5 acres of grass, or just about half of an NFL football field. The 19-inch cutting deck is above average and its height can easily be adjusted using the 7-position single lever mechanism found near the rear wheel. Now before we get carried away talking about the many benefits of this product, let’s take a brief look at the features.

GreenWorks 25292 Pros

This model is one of GreenWorks’ most powerful and biggest entries into the eco-friendly garden equipment category. It delivers a complete solution right out of the box and packs a slew of features that homeowners are looking for in a mower, and so much more.

It can bag, discharge or mulch without the need for additional accessories. Driven by a high powered 4-amp/hour, 40 volt lithium ion battery, it can run for more than 60 minutes continuously. With the extra battery pack included in the package, you can mow  with one while charging the other one, so you virtually don’t run out of mowing power.

This cordless lawn mower is equipped with a 19-inch mulching blade housed in a highly durable steel cutting deck, riding on large 7-inch front wheels and 8-inch front wheels. The large wheels make the mower easy to maneuver in different terrains, even the bumpy ones.

The mowing deck features a 7-position single lever mechanism for easy height adjustment, so the user can easily change the cutting heights from 1.5 inches to 3.5 inches in 7 increments.

The poly deck is ultra-lightweight at a mere 49 lbs., significantly reducing the mower’s overall weight and making it easier to maneuver and handle. The handles are foldable for a more compact size for transport or storage.

Many consumers were impressed with the safety factors carefully incorporated by GreenWorks into the design. First, the starting system uses a lockout key strategically concealed under the door of the battery compartment. This keeps it safe and hidden from children. To start the machine, you simply engage the handle bail, which is made safer by the mower bail handle’s lockout switch that has to be disengaged.

Every single component and the overall construction of the GreenWorks 25292 denotes nothing but high quality, so you can surely use the mower for many years. Although the chassis is made of polymer, it is durable and doesn’t easily crack.

The 4-year guarantee backs this all up, too, so you know that you are getting a long-lasting lawn mower.

GreenWorks 25292 Cons

Although the model aced all the points that matter, there are some areas wherein it did less than perfect. Most of these issues are common to battery-powered lawn mowers, though. For example, even though the lithium ion battery and the 40-volt motor packs a lot of power, this lawn mower may still find it difficult to mow tall and tough kinds of grasses.

You may also need to make a few passes to achieve a perfect and evenly cut lawn, since the mower tends to miss patches of grass. The rear bag is also not that large, so it fills up rather quickly and may need to be emptied a few times while on the job.

The price may be considered high by some people, and may put them off, but 7 out of the 10 consumers that bought the GreenWorks 25292 commented that the investment was well worth it.

The Verdict

Don’t be shocked by the sticker price, because you are buying long-term excellence. There are so many reasons why you should buy a battery-powered electric lawn mower like the GreenWorks 25292: they are eco-friendly, quieter, have excellent range, and less complicated to use. And the power packs are the best in the industry.

The batteries take only 3 hours to charge, and the power output is way above industry standards. This machine is certainly ideal for homeowners who want to maintain their medium sized lawns.

When you are switching to a battery-powered mower, you shouldn’t sacrifice efficiency and performance.  And this is why GreenWorks 25292 exceeds consumer expectations. You will be getting a powerful and durable mower with very efficient batteries. The parts are made of quality materials and the construction is clearly made for long-term use. The 4-year warranty for the machine and the 2-year warranty for the power packs further proves that the guys at GreenWorks are very confident that their products are well worthy of the investment.

Remington is a popular lawn mower brand known for their high-powered and top-performing products. The 18A-212B783 is no different. This electrically powered cordless push lawn mower is one of the most popular in its category, being both powerful and eco-friendly.

You can easily switch between a corded electric mower and a cordless mower in no time with its topnotch battery system. If your battery runs out before you finish your lawn, you can just plug it in and finish the job.

This product has a lot of features and benefits not found in its counterparts, so let’s take a closer look at it and find out whether this is the lawn mower you’ve been looking for.

Remington 18A-212B783: A Closer Look at the Features

You will like this Remington’s cordless capability, although of course you’d think that it can do better with more power. You can use the on-board charger, which means that the cord is plugged into the mower’s body and you need to drag the entire unit around. In this scenario, having a really long extension power socket will really help, as you won’t want to haul the lawn back and forth the house just to recharge it. There is an optional battery charger sold separately, though, so this is a great option to consider.

The Remington 18-A212B783 comes with a 24-volt rechargeable battery that packs enough power that allows continuous usage for up to 75 minutes in just one charge. You can use the cordless function if you don’t want the hassle of dealing with cords. All you’d need to do is charge and then start mowing.

Because it is electrically powered, it is almost maintenance free, and emits 0 carbon footprint, making it one of the most environmentally friendly lawn mowers in the market. You won’t need to use oil or gas, and tune ups are not necessary.

It has a wide 19-inch cutting deck, featuring a 3-in-1 disposal system that includes a rear bag, mulching and side discharge for the clippings. The system already includes the side discharge chute, mulch plug, and a grass bag.

Adjusting the cutting height is a breeze with its 6-position single lever controls, which allows the user to change the height of the blade according to his preferences.

The unit is very comfortable to use with its foam cushioned and ergonomic handle. The cushioned grip helps to absorb vibration so you won’t feel very strained after mowing your lawn.

To optimize maneuverability and ease of use, the unit is equipped with well-balanced front and rear wheels, at 7 inches and 8 inches respectively. You can use the lawn mower in different terrains and reach even those hard to access areas.

The Things We Like about the Remington 18A-212B783

We especially liked the ability to change between a corded mower and a cordless one. Although the battery can only run for 75 minutes, you’ll most likely cover your entire lawn in that time, what with the power of the engine and the cutting precision of the blade. It is best to “power charge” the battery for a full night after your initial assembly.

According to the manual, the initial charge time should be 10 – 24 hours. You will get close to 2 hours of continuous mowing power after the initial charge, in fact, when fully charged, you can do a series of mowing sessions for 2 days without needing to recharge. In this aspect, Remington totally exceeded our expectations.

The other virtues you’d expect from a cordless electric lawn mower are present in this product, such as being quieter than its counterparts and having no carbon emission.

The assembly is also made easier because of the handle bolts threaded onto knobs, instead of nuts. The height of the wheel is also adjustable and the lever is hand-friendly. You can adjust the deck height from 1.23 inches to 3.5 inches in 6 increments.

The 19-inch steel cutting blade provides you with 3-in-1 mowing options including rear bagging, side discharging and mulching.

Are there any Cons?

As with any product, the Remington 18A-212B783 is not without flaws, however, they are quite insignificant compared to the numerous features and benefits of this product. But let’s look at them too, for true objectivity.

Although quite expected of battery powered mowers, and we certainly were impressed with the longer hours it provided, this model could be better with a little bit more power in it. But that would be asking for too much, wouldn’t it? In this perspective, you would need to be ready to haul the mower back and forth your house and lawn for recharging, although this can easily be resolved by a plug extension or an extra battery.

We also found the plastic parts of the mower to be more prone to crack compared to those that have steel chassis, but this also makes the Remington very light and easier to push.

For some users, the wheel alignment seems delicate as it sometimes wobbles. The cord handler is also choosy; it only fits the recommended type of cord so if you use a different cord size, it will most likely fall off.

As with any other battery-powered mower, do not expect that your battery will last forever. After a few years, it will eventually die and rendered unusable. But you can look for a replacement, and if not, you can just settle with using the corded mode until you find one.

The Verdict

The Remington 18A-212B783 exceeded our expectations in terms of battery capacity and grass-cutting performance. It is definitely worth the buy, being both powerful and eco-friendly at the same time. It is quiet and unobtrusive, and can be easily stored in your garage or shed. Although we long for more stability and maneuverability from its wheels, it is easy to push in non-bumpy terrains. Being lightweight and low-maintenance, this model is highly recommended for homeowners (even the elderly) who have small to medium sized lawns.
